Meet our employees

“Network protector”

Pia Pernille Rødsten
Operations engineer (NOC)

I started in February 2021 as an Operations Engineer at GC’s global NOC. Working here means you have a hectic job with a steep learning curve, with no day being the same as the last – and I just love that. The NOC is a critical part of our business, as we are the last to leave the ship, so to speak. Our work ensures the network keeps running, optimizing uptime, which is what our customers expect. At NOC, we do everything in our power to keep our global network online.

What is a typical work shift for you like?
For me during a typical work shift, we support the field engineers that are connecting new households or fixing issues with customer connections. We handle network failures, power outages and anything that can disturb the network. We also work closely with security, preventing and mitigating DDOS attacks. There are a plenty of things that can affect the network.

What are the most exciting parts in your job?
To me, the most exciting part is that we are challenged daily. We have a very dynamic workday, and no two days are exactly alike. I find that exciting, challenging and at times also frustrating – but it’s always fun. One of the main things that drives me is to be challenged in my work, especially when I get to use my technical expertise and problem-solving skills. Also, working closely with the other countries where GC has a presence is exciting, and I can’t wait to see where that takes us in the future.

What made you join GlobalConnect?
I wanted a new challenge – to work for a company with a large pan-Scandinavian network and innovative solutions. This was such an exciting opportunity I couldn’t pass it up. At GC, you can make a difference. I am lucky to have good colleagues who help me get better at what I do. At the same time, I know that our customers are getting great value because we work well across the company.

How do you see your function developing in the years to come?
The NOC function and role are constantly changing, and this is what makes working in technology extremely exciting, considering how fast everything evolves and the opportunities that come with it. Comparing where we were a couple of years ago to where we are now, we can only imagine what’s going to happen in the years to come.
